Research in immunology depends very heavily on knowledge of a family of molecules known as CD molecules. These molecules allow the identification and manipulation of the various types of white blood cells (leukocytes) and the tissue cells (stromal cells) that blood cells interact with.

CD molecules are also important in diagnosis of diseases ranging from leukaemia to infection or allergy, and are increasingly targeted in therapy of cancer and autoimmune diseases such as arthritis.

WCHRI scientists have for the last few years run the international workshops that study and classify these molecules, and have recently published a book that provides a definitive directory of all the known CD Molecules.
